Setting up North's great win

A grade

With 43 runs, North's Schalk Ferrerria set his team up for a great win against last season's premiers Central at Memorial Oval on Sunday.

Ferriera followed up with 4/14 from 36 balls and two catches, out his team's total score of 5/135 from 45.5 overs.

Central's skipper Travis Hole could only smile when veterans Jeremy Edson made 64 runs, and Scott Collison made 32 runs.

But it turned to despair when Jarrad Dunbar only made 10 while the rest did not even make double digits in the scorebook batting first.

Apart from Ferreria ripping Central's middle order batsmen apart with four scalps it was Chris Beaty and skipper Matt Quist, two wickets each, leaving one wicket each to Jacques Ferreria and Shaun Taylor.

Batting second, North lost five wickets in the run chase with Schalk Ferreria, 43 runs, holding it together with Beaty, 28 runs, to deny Central a win as Jacques Ferreria added 15 while David Marshall with 19 started the show.

Central's bowling attack appeared light on with John Stuppos bowling exceptionally well with 2/9 from 36 balls with three maidens.

Edson bowled 60 balls with three maidens with two wickets for 18.

Both did their bit for the team effort while Daniel Collison finished with one scalp on his belt.

Roopena bounce back

Roopena 5/100 defeated West 10/93

From 24 overs, Roopena won against West from 35 overs at Memorial Oval on Saturday afternoon.

It was great to have at least one umpire to return to cover this match as the players welcomed it with open arms.

West won the toss and batted losing early wickets due to fine bowling by Roopena's main strike bowlers David Burd and Shane Brown two wickets each for 44 runs.

Old reliable Martin Woodcock, 35 not out, stood tall for West while his teammates fell away like nine pins.

It was Roopena's middle order bowlers Ben Hogan and Jeff Ewings wreaking havoc with two wickets each, while Tyler Stopp collected the one scalp for 30 runs.

In reply Captain Greg Fiebig reversed his batting order allowing Ewings, 19 not out, to star with the bat.

Dale Chenoweth, 19, and Mark Fidock, 15, with Rhys Lacey and Gerry Simatos made 10 runs leaving Alex Kristic, six not out, at the close of play.

West bowlers were fighting against Jacob Daumellor on debut 2/17 with one scalp each to Alan Walford, Sam Lewis and Chris Drew as the game reached an anticlimax.
