 North's big battle of tactics

North's big battle of tactics

11 Feb, 2010 11:07 AM

With only four rounds before the final series start on March 13, North's captain Matt Quist will battle wits against Central's captain Travis Hole.

North will meet Central on Saturday afternoon at the Memorial Oval.

North had a good win last weekend with Quist bowling well and David Marshall making some runs, while Central looked ordinary and not premiership material, losing to a better Roopena team on the day.

This weekend Hole will be hoping for a better outcome when his superstar Jeremy Edson returns and megastar Scott Collison injured a fortnight ago, may be a 50/50 chance of returning.

North's new hero Mickey Jaritz will need to be on the top of his game with the little red ball and with a much improved Josh Ackland and the impressive Shaun Taylor doing their bit.

Central's batting dynamo Brad Smith does not like making low scores, and will be out to improve on last week's poor showing.

Smith will need Rajkumar Shanmugan to provide support and bat well to put North's bowling attack back on the ropes.

Quist needs to dismiss Edson and Scott Collison cheaply, removing the potential threat of a run explosion, because Hole and John Stuppos are both finding some form with the bat.

Quist will be desperately hoping that Jake Gericke and Dale Raymond do damage with the ball and take wickets on a regular basis, denying Central the opportunity to accumulate a big total.

Hole has his own weapons of destroyers with the spin attack of Shanmugan, Maxwell Warner and Juan Estepa to test the mettle of North veteran Travis Litterini and Ackland, while Marshall and Jaritz are the unknown denominators with the bat for North, trying to counter the Central spin attack.

Quist wants to beat Central to restore some confidence with the finals looming on the horizon, where his counterpart Hole has to settle on twelve players in preparation for another finals campaign.
