Whyalla's First XI will travel to Quorn Oval on Saturday to meet Port Augusta as the Beaurepaires Tyres Inter-City Competition heats up.
The Whyalla team will be out to prove it can win, even if the weather is in the extreme like last weekend's match against Port Pirie.
Throughout the years, Whyalla and Port Augusta have had some interesting battles against each other with the honours shared.
This year is Whyalla's best opportunity to win the Beaurepaires Tyres Inter-City Shield.
The extreme heat is set to hit Port Augusta and Quorn with thunderstorms, rain and lighting forecast for Friday and Saturday, which will make an interesting dilemma for the inter-city competition if bad weather stops play.
Whyalla coach/captain Greg Fiebig was denied a victory against Port Pirie, and will be all out on Saturday to stop his counterparts, Port Augusta captain Jason McInerney and his team, from taking the two points on offer.
Fiebig would have been pleased with Jarrad Dunbar's solid effort, making 49 runs on debut, and will be hoping that he can do better against the best bowlers Port Augusta has on the day.
Port Augusta has selected veteran Mark Myers, and former Whyalla player Nick Callary will be out to cause headaches for Whyalla bowlers Ryan Jacobs and Jeremy Edson, who were among the wickets last week.
Edson, Scott Collison (if available) and Matt Quist will have to share the responsibility and hold the middle order batting together to stop Port Augusta seizing the initiative.
Port Augusta's team has a good mixture of youth and experience, none better than wily Russell Coulthard and Scott Williams, supporting rising star Daniel Fisher, and Nathan Khan.
Chris Beaty and David Burd will sorely test out Mack Benbow and Mitchell Foote, with Aaron Vater ready to disappoint the Whyalla team.
The probable Whyalla team could consist of coach/captain Greg Fiebig, Scott Collison, Jarrad Dunbar, Jeremy Edson, Matt Quist, Josh Ackland, Schalk and Jacques Ferreria, Sam Lewis, David Burd, Chris Beaty and Ryan Jacobs.
The Whyalla under 16s play at ETSA Park, with the under 14s scheduled to play at Chinnery Park.
Again, the weather will have a bearing on the outcome, especially if it is extremely hot and rain prevents play.
Last weekend Port Pirie did not play juniors in Whyalla as, at 38C, the matches were forfeited to Whyalla.
This will pose an interesting discussion point at the next Upper North Cricket meeting on December 2 at 7.30pm at the Central Augusta Football and Sporting Club.
