In ideal weather for good cricket, Roopena's stand in captain Ben Hogan made 36 runs not out and finished with three wickets for nine runs.
It was a man of the match performance against West 10/70 from 31 overs with Roopena in reply 3/72 from 28 overs.
West batted first on an unpredictable strip of turf playing havoc with the bat.
Nagabhushanam Parepalli top scored with 15 not out and skipper Sam Frick 11, while the rest of the team struggled to make double figures.
Apart from Hogan's three wickets, it was Dale Gericke's 4/12 from 42 balls who rattled the West batting line-up while Joey Jaritz took 2/25, leaving Shane Brown one wicket for just two runs from 24 balls.
After the short recess it was Roopena's batsmen's chance to navigate the minefield with Hogan leading by example with 36 runs, Dale Chenoweth (6) and Daniel Ivanovic (13), while Ryan Burgess failed miserably and Luke Kwaterski was eight not out.
West bowlers shared the spoils with Reg Harris and Alan Walford one wicket each, while on debut Jayden Croft bowled five overs for just 10 runs in a good spell of economical bowling.
