Whyalla prepared for storms

08 Feb, 2012 11:30 PM
Whyalla is well prepared for storms.

This is according to Whyalla State Emergency Service unit manager Tony Fahlbusch, who believes Whyalla City Council is doing well to prepare Whyalla for storms.

Mr Fahlbusch said over the past few months Whyalla had been hit by some heavy storms which had caused significant damage to a number of public areas and private properties.

"Over the last few storms that we've had, the one before Christmas and the one that we've just had [January 29], I don't think there's anything that we could do," Mr Fahlbusch said.

He said the best preparation that could be done was by residents ensuring that their properties were able to withstand strong winds and rain.

"With the amount of rain that came down in such a short time, preparation is making sure that residents' gutters are clear, trees and gardens are away from gutters and you haven't got any overhanging trees," Mr Fahlbusch said.
