Vandals cause power out

25 Feb, 2010 10:30 AM
About 2000 ETSA customers were affected by a power outage on Monday, February 22.

ETSA has claimed that the loss of power was due to vandalism, when a lock was deliberately broken on a switch and electrical infrastructure and equipment was tampered with.

ETSA spokesperson Jessica Vonthethoff said the vandal had been playing with very dangerous equipment.

"I certainly wouldn't be playing with something like that," Ms Vonthethoff said.

"A prank like that could result in serious injury."

The vandalism act forced 2000 customers to have no power for about 40 minutes as well as affected two sets of traffic lights at the Nicolson and Norrie Avenue intersection and the Nicolson Avenue and Ekblom street intersection, before the electrical feeders could be repaired.
