Settling down in a new town can be hard, especially if you are from a another country with a different culture and language.
Advancing Whyalla and the Whyalla Economic Development Board (WEDB) joined hands some time back to set up the Settling Our Future program.
Local volunteer Kara Tieman was appointed program coordinator two weeks ago, and she is eager to see more members join the coffee and chat sessions, scrap booking, games and barbecue nights.
Ms Tieman has been living in Whyalla for more than two years, and volunteered at Community House and with Advancing Whyalla before taking up the position.
She said she is excited about the programs and wants a lot of new settlers in Whyalla to take advantage of the opportunity.
Ms Tieman said the program also offers English and numeracy classes, volunteer training, meet and greet services, town tours and social activities.
She said the aim of the program was to integrate new residents to Whyalla with a community approach.
The programs are run through Advancing Whyalla WEDB, Volunteering SA and the Whyalla City Council.
