School enrolment numbers increase

04 Feb, 2010 10:17 AM
With the school year already two weeks in, primary schools across Whyalla have noticed an increase in the number of enrolments.

Long Street Primary School has seen a significant increase, with 295 students enrolling in 2010 up from 280 in 2009.

Long Street Primary School principal Robert Fuller said he believes this may be due to an influx of people into the town.

"It's certainly a healthy start to the year," Mr Fuller said.

"We are anticipating the rise to continue further on in the year."

Nicolson Avenue Primary School has also incurred an increase with 391 students now attending the school up from last years 370.

Although some schools have seen a significant rise, the enrolment of others schools across Whyalla has remained steady.

Memorial Oval Primary School principal Judy Hill said although there were a few less students beginning the year at the school, by the middle of the first term there should be an increase in numbers.

Fisk Street Primary School administrations school services officer Julie Henderson said that the number of enrolled students has remained fairly stable from last year, but believes that the number will increase throughout the year.
