Salvos get behind fuel campaign

29 Sep, 2008 12:30 AM
Charitable organisations are concerned about the rise in petrol prices saying it has an impact on the total cost of living.

Captain Mike Kemp of the Salvation Army said it would be good to know why there was a huge difference between the prices in other towns.

He said he would sign any petition or lobby for answers so that the disparity is removed.

Captain Kemp said those who did not use diesel would still have to bear the cost in some ways because businesses are bound to pass on the extra charges.

He said it would be interesting to read reports and findings of independent organisation if investigations are carried out.

Coordinator of Community House Felicia Melillo said extra costs of petrol added to the over-all bill and budget of a household.

She said just like spending money on increased rent and groceries the price of petrol also had an impact on everyone.
