Members of the Whyalla NAIDOC Committee will meet at the Nunyara Wellbeing Centre Inc tomorrow to discuss plans for this year's celebrations.
Centre manager Cindy Zbierski said although the celebrations will be in July, it was important to start preparation works now.
She said all interested service agencies, volunteers and community members are encouraged to attend the meeting at 10am.
"This year's National NAIDOC theme is Unsung Heroes - Closing the Gap by Leading Their Way, Ms Zbierski said.
"Many unsung Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have made huge contributions to Australian society.
"Unsung heroes recognises the part played by the quiet achievers in the indigenous community, both now and in the past.
"These heroes lead by taking their own paths, and in doing so, helping other indigenous people set their own direction for the future."
Entries are now open for two awards and a poster competition.
