The Nunyara Wellbeing Centre is concerned about the high petrol prices, because some clients are not able to make necessary medical trips to Port Augusta and have to fork out extra cash from their food money.
Centre manager, Cindy Zbierski said the price of diesel and gas in Whyalla is unreasonable and low income earners and those on Centrelink benefits were finding it hard to make ends meet.
She said the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme (PATS) provides assistance to people in the country who are required to travel more than 100 km (one way) to obtain the nearest available medical specialist treatment.
Ms Zbierski said some clients struggled to travel to Port Augusta and government agencies advised them to utilise cash from the family assistance.
This she said meant cutting down on food and other essential items.
"The campaign and lobbying initiated by Whyalla News is very good and we hope that something comes out of it," Ms Zbierski said.
"Another option would be to boycott the outlet which is selling fuel at a higher price."
She said it was high time this issue was resolved and Whyalla residents had a fair go as far as fuel prices were concerned.
