 Dog rego prices increase

Dog rego prices increase

28 Jun, 2010 11:30 PM
The price to register your dog has gone up by 25 per cent.

Legislation compliance officer Steve Woolley said this was no excuse not to register your dog.

He said the council encouraged more residents to train, microchip and/or desex their dog to receive cheaper "rego".

Full dog registration has gone up to $50, while other registration has increased by $4 to $9.

Mr Woolley said these new fees would be effective as of June 1 as per a decision made by the council in March.

He said those who "best benefit" from the decision are those with well trained dogs.

"Those are also less likely to attract fines too," Mr Woolley said.

He said a well trained dog was also less likely to wonder at large and attract more fines or fees.

Mr Woolley said this was the first price rise since 2004 and while concession does apply, there would still be an increase for concession card holders.

Other increased fees were seizure, pound, destruction," dog sign-over to the council" (if brought in by owner or dog collected by the council), transfer and call out fees.

Mr Woolley said other penalties including dogs wondering at large and keeping an unregistered dog were set by the State Government and would not increase unless decided by the Government.
