Small retailers and businesses are feeling the pinch of increased fuel prices, with their freight prices increasing as a result.
Whyalla City Plaza Business Association Incorporated president, Joanne Marshall, said the price of petrol in Whyalla has always been high in comparison to other towns.
She said to make the situation worse, there was no dedicated cycle so that motorists could fill up their cars on those days of the week when petrol is cheaper.
Ms Marshall said the only solution would be to boycott outlets that hike their prices but it seems that is not the case in Whyalla.
She said due to lack of public transport vehicle owners are compelled to top up their cars and due to lack of competition it made no or very little difference as to which outlet one used.
"We do feel the pinch because the freight costs increase each time there is a rise in fuel costs and unlike the metros people in the country tend to travel more," Ms Marshall said.
"This is a very tough battle because legally nothing much can be done unless a lot of people get-together and raise their concerns together.
"Everyone suffers when the prices are high and have to cut back on other things so it's important that enough support is gathered to get answers and fair price."
