ICE Engineering & Construction Pty Ltd (ICE) will soon start hiring more people in Whyalla to meet the demands of its recently approved $5.2 million contract with Uranium One's Honeymoon Project.
The project which is 565km from Whyalla, and about 75km from Broken Hill, will use labour, materials and equipment for the installation of electrical equipment and instrumentation from ICE.
ICE, a wholly owned subsidiary of E & A Limited (EAL) employs 35 locals and offers more than 50 years of combined management experience in providing services and contract labour to the electrical and instrumentation sector of the water, mining and exploration industries.
EAL executive chairman Stephen Young said the work secured by ICE was in addition to the recently announced $17.4 million contract already awarded to Ottoway Engineering Pty Ltd (Ottoway) in relation to the Honeymoon Project.
He said the Honeymoon Project will require the provision of onsite services by a number of EAL subsidiaries and clearly demonstrated the company's combined skills and capabilities.
Mr Young said more electricians will be hired from Whyalla and Adelaide and the scope of mining and employment in the iron triangle looked bright.
He said atleast 40 more people will be hired and first preference will be given to trades people from Whyalla before the company starts looking at hiring electricians from Adelaide.
Mr Young said the performance and integration of ICE, was ahead of budget, and confirmed that the company's strategic reasoning for acquiring ICE in order to provide integrated engineering, fabrication and electrical services was gaining momentum.
He said the announcement of this further contract win for the Honeymoon project reaffirmed his earlier statements that EAL's turnover will be in excess of $160 million for the 2009/10 financial year.
